Oolon's list of useful links
This set of links is deliberately highly selective -- there is no point trying to be comprehensive when Talk Origins already has this exhaustive page. Rather, these are a personal selection of informative sites that are worth a browse. Enjoy!
Scepticism and Freethought
The Talk Origins Archive
Does exactly what it says on the tin: TO provides the mainstream scientific answers to creationist claims. The best single place to check out the accuracy of any creationist claim. Of course it's biased; that's hardly a surprise, because creationism is wrong, and this site will show you very precisely why that is the case.
Some of the most useful sections are:
Defending genuine science against pseudoscientific and creationist attacks.
Clifford A Cuffey's pages:
Organisms That Look Designed, or, The Argument from Irreducible Grotesqueness
The sorely-missed Allan Glenn wrote this smashing piece on how the wonders of nature clearly demonstrate a creator... and the nature of that creator. Some might call it humour or parody; I call it entirely accurate.
"If you're walking along and find a finely crafted Iron Maiden, with fresh blood stains on it, no less, do you suppose it was put together by chance, or an Intelligent Designer?"
PALAEOS: The Trace of Life on Earth
Everything you could want to know about the history of life, really, all in one huge place. Palaeontology, geochronology, systematics and the diversity of life, ancient and modern. Vast quantities of details about many fossil groups of interest, including especially:
Journey into Phylogenetic Systematics
Don't be put off by the title: this is a nice simple introduction to what CLADISTICS is all about, how it works and why it's useful.
Atlas of Dermatology
You name it, if a parasite or pathogen does it to the skin, there'll be a picture of it here.
The Big Picture Book of Viruses
A marvellous collection of electron microscope etc pictures of these beautiful -- and often deadly -- creations.
Centres for Disease Control and Prevention
An A to Z of diseases -- that is, things caused by those amazing creations, parasites and pathogens.
From Acetodextra to Zygocotyle lunata, by way of bot flies, filariasis, sand fleas and trypanosomes, together with useful notes about each one of these lovely creations.
Photo Gallery of Bacterial Pathogens
Want a photo of a disease-causing bacterium? You'll probably find one here.
Scepticism and Freethought
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible / Koran / Book of Mormon
A fully cross-referenced reference which highlights inconsistencies, illogicalities and absurdities (not to mention plain nastiness) in these three holy books. If you engage with creationists, you will need to know where they are coming from. Especially relevant is the list of examples of their conflict with science and history:
It is worth also having to hand an online Bible that lets you compare translations. The Online Parallel Bible fills the bill neatly.
The Skeptic's Dictionary
... from Abracadabra to Zombies, by way of creationism and creation science, and a nice entry on what science is.
The Bible of the Good and Moral Atheist
Are atheists immoral blackguards? Find out what they really think here!
Freedom From Religion Foundation
Despite its US emphasis, this is a useful collection of non-religious materials. I'm especially fond of:
